12Kolkata: Names of over 12 lakh ‘missing or absent' voters in Bengal were omitted from the draft SIR roll published by EC on Tuesday. Around 2 lakh of them are from the city.These 12 lakh voters are among the 58.2 lakh electors marked as ‘absent, shifted, dead/duplicate (ASD)'.The commission has listed Jorasanko, Chowringhee, Howrah North, Kolkata Port, Ballygunge, Shyampukur, Cossipore-Belgachhia and Beleghata as assemblies with a high number of ASD voters in Bengal.The draft roll contains 7,08,16,621 names out of 7,66,37,519 voters of Bengal as of Oct 27. According to the draft SIR roll, Baranagar had the lowest number of omitted voters at 31,320, followed by Dum Dum at 33,862 names and Kamarhati at 35,191 names.Jadavpur has 22,172 dead, 4,789 shifted and 24,217 absent voters, Dum Dum North 16,466 dead, 8,289 shifted and 8,431 absent voters and Behala West 23,928 dead, 11,404 shifted and 14,778 absent voters. The commission marked 19,377 dead, 12,121 shifted, and 23,676 absent electors in Kasba. About 16,221 electors were found dead, 14,977 shifted, and 11,618 absent in Bidhannagar. Tollygunge has 14,272 dead, 9,385 shifted, and 10,656 absent voters.JU physics professor Partha Pratim Ray, a Kasba voter, was shocked upon finding himself being marked as ‘untraceable/absent' on the draft roll, though his wife's names was on the roll. "Even my BLO is clueless but she says it may be a technical glitch. I have been asked to fill Form 6. This is sheer harassment," he said.As for dead voters, Behala West is on the top with 23,928 names, followed by Behala East with 23,420 and Jadavpur with 22,172 names. When it comes to permanently shifted voters, the highest number was found in Kolkata Port at 29,011, followed by Beleghata at 26,538 and Chowringhee at 25,053.In the ASD category, around 39,634 voters from two Kolkata districts — Kolkata North and Kolkata South— were omitted from the draft list.
