Ludhiana: A man's brother-in-law allegedly led a gang that stormed his house at gunpoint and extorted ₹50,000 rupees from him in this city, police have said. The accused had reportedly demanded ₹10 lakh.The district's rural police have booked 12 people in the case and arrested two suspects, while a manhunt is underway for the primary accused, identified as Jasvir Singh. The complainant, Narinder Singh of Baraich village, told police that on Oct 26 around 8.30 pm., his brother-in-law, Jasvir Singh of Jodhan, arrived at his home with 10 to 12 accomplices in three vehicles. Narinder Singh also alleged that Jasvir and five others had entered the house forcibly.Jasvir then pulled out a pistol, pointed it at Narinder Singh's chest, and demanded ₹10 lakh. When Narinder Singh resisted, the accused allegedly threatened to harm him if the money was not produced.The gang took ₹50,000 rupees lying in a drawer and left, but not without a dire warning: they threatened to kill Narinder Singh if he did not arrange the remaining balance within a day. Narinder Singh added that the accused had continued to linger around his house after the incident, prompting him to file a police complaint.Police at Dakha station filed a case against the accused on charges including extortion and assault. The arrested suspects were identified as Manpreet Singh and Kulwinder Singh. The other booked individuals include Veerpal Singh Pal, Jugraj Singh Lala, Amaninder Singh, and six unidentified people. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Varinder Singh Khosa confirmed the arrests and stated that a massive manhunt was in progress for the remaining accused.DSP Khosa added that the prime suspect, Jasvir Singh, was a drug addict and has a previous case filed against him under the Arms Act. The police will investigate the legality of the weapon used in the crime after Jasvir Singh is apprehended.
