The Uttar Pradesh Police have expanded the scope of their investigation into the KGMU rape case, bringing junior doctors and administrative staff under the scanner as the case gathers pace. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has now taken charge of the probe into the developments at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, underscoring the gravity of the allegations. According to senior police sources, investigators are increasingly viewing the activities uncovered at KGMU as resembling what they describe as a “Love Jihad–style factory", where vulnerable women were allegedly targeted through deception, emotional manipulation, and prolonged engagement. Officials emphasise that this characterisation reflects the current direction of the investigation and that findings will ultimately be determined by evidence and due legal process. The probe has also widened to examine the background and possible ideological links of the accused, Dr Ramizuddin’s family. Police sources allege that the accused’s father, Salimuddin Nayak, has close links with the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and was reportedly honoured twice by the organisation in the past. Investigators say Nayak, a resident of Lucknow’s Thakurganj area, was allegedly involved in conversion-related activities for several years, including luring Hindu women into relationships that later culminated in religious conversion. These allegations are being examined through witness testimonies, digital records, and intelligence inputs. Significantly, junior doctors and nursing staff who were initially reluctant to record statements have now begun cooperating with the STF. Police officials say multiple staffers have come forward with information suggesting that warning signs were visible but not acted upon in time. The role of the KGMU administration is also under scrutiny, with investigators examining whether complaints were ignored or inadequately addressed. In another development, families of two former patients — who had earlier declined to file formal complaints — have started informal cooperation with the police. Sources indicate that their accounts could help investigators establish a wider pattern of alleged exploitation. Fresh forensic analysis of recovered digital data has revealed that several conversations linked to the accused were not recent or isolated. Investigators say the chats point to long-term interactions centred on emotional reassurance, religious justification, and gradual persuasion, suggesting a sustained process rather than sporadic communication. Police sources have also flagged what they describe as administrative delays by the KGMU authorities. Despite multiple complaints and red flags, officials claim that timely corrective action was not taken, a lapse now being examined as part of the broader investigation. The STF maintains that the probe is ongoing and that all individuals named or examined will be treated in accordance with the law, with conclusions to be drawn strictly on the basis of evidence.
