Aizawl:Mizoram Chief MinisterLalduhomasaid on Tuesday that his government prioritises transparency and quality inpublic worksand aims to eliminate substandard and incomplete projects.He made the statement while laying the foundation stones for a Mara Girls’ Hostel, eight new schools, and the upgradation of six existing schools at the Mara Boys’ Hostel in the Zotlang neighbourhood of Aizawl.Speaking on the occasion, Lalduhoma said the government has constituted a public-inclusive project monitoring committee to oversee development works. He added that the committee has so far reviewed 87 projects, with several others currently under scrutiny.The Chief Minister urged all executing agencies to work with dedication and responsibility.Commenting on the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Lalduhoma further described the day as a historic moment for the Mara community and a significant milestone in Mizoram’s educational development. He said the facilities, once completed, will benefit around 3,200 Mara students.He also said the Mizoram government has already initiated the construction of a Mara Girls’ Hostel in Delhi, adding that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to the development of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) area and the empowerment of women.The Mara are one of the major tribes of the Mizo community and have their own autonomous district council in Siaha district in southern Mizoram under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution since 1972.The event was attended by BJP legislator from Siaha, Dr K. Beichhua, and MADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) M. Laikaw.In his technical report, A. Viahra, a Superintending Engineer under the MADC, also said the Rs 8 crore Mara Girls’ Hostel will be a six-storey building with an accommodation capacity of 120 students. He added that it will include dormitory facilities and a conference hall.Officials said the government will construct eight new school buildings at a cost of Rs 5.76 crore, comprising 12 classrooms.The upgradation of six existing schools, costing Rs 8.59 crore, will include the introduction of smart classrooms, he said.Related
