Hollywood Son Charged with Murder of Parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner

Hollywood fixtures Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s son Nick Reiner was formally charged in connection with their murder on Tuesday (US time). Without offering much insight into the weapon used to slay the couple, Los Angeles district attorney Nathan Hochman said the 32-year-old man used a knife to kill his parents, as per US reports. Consequently, Nick now faces two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors further requested these charges be viewed under “special circumstances,” considering there had been multiple murders. This consideration could expand a potentially convicted individual’s sentence. And so, Nick Reiner may end up being sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. The charges were announced two days after Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found dead at their home in Brentwood. As per NYT, the coroner is still figuring out whether the couple died on Saturday or Sunday. Nick was arrested without incident near the University of Southern California on Sunday night after officers reported to the Reiners’ home. The 32-year-old has since not made his first court appearance despite being expected to show up on Tuesday morning. His lawyer, Alan Jackson, said that his client had not been medically cleared to be transferred from jail, as per the NYT.
