AAP Consolidates Presence in Goa Ahead of 2027 Assembly Elections

In 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made its presence felt in Goa's electoral battle, winning two assembly seats and a vote share of 6.77%. Five years later, the party is in the process of consolidating its initial base. AAP's joining hands with the Goa Forward Party (GFP) in the run-up to the 2027 assembly elections is an indication of the party's desire to overcome its two previous seat margins with growing resentment against a regional ally, the weakening Congress, and the BJP. The question is, will this strategy be able to establish AAP as the main opposition force in Goa? The 2022 election was AAP's first major electoral success in Goa. The party contested 39 of the state's 40 seats and won two seats, Velim and Benaulim, in South Goa. The party's vote share, with a total of 64,354 votes, stood at 6.77%. This figure (BJP 33.31% or ID2%), even though it was the first time that AAP had entered Goa's electoral fray.
