AfD Makes Major Political Breakthrough in Saxony-Anhalt Election

In German politics, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has made a major political breakthrough. The AfD received 43.8% votes in Sunday's election in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt. That's more than double from 5 years ago. The victory is significant because Germany's mainstream parties have long refused to form any political alliance with the AfD. This policy is called a'firewall'in Germany. Now the question is, can this political firewall be broken after the AfD's big win? Germany's major parties have maintained a kind of political line that they won't help the AfD form a government or come to power. A big reason for this is Germany's Nazi past. Germany's nationalistic, racially superiority, and right-wing sensitivities after Adolf Hitler's Nazi rule and the atrocities committed during it have caused some of Germany's most radical intelligence agencies to classify the AfD as a far-right organization.
