Alka Yagnik Celebrates Birthday: A Journey from Child Singer to Bollywood Icon

(Jitendra Ruparelia...) Vapi: India's pride and Bollywood's famous playback singer Alka Yagnik's birthday is today. Alka Yagnik was born on 20th March, 1966 in Kolkata in a Gujarati Hindu family, West Bengal. Her father Shri Dhruv Kumar Yagnik was a Gujarati and mother Smt Shakuntala Yagnik was a good singer herself. With her mother's inspiration, Alkaji learned music from an early age, her younger brother Sameer Yagnik is also a singer. It is said that Alka started singing at the age of just four and got training in classical music, and at the age of just 6, in the year 1972, she started singing bhajans for All India Radio Akashvani, Kolkata, then at the age of 10, her mother brought her to Mumbai to give her a chance to sing as a child singer. When Raj Kapoor was introduced to Raj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor sent her to the famous music director Laxmikant, Laxmikant gave her the option to start singing as a dubbing artist in 1980, after which Alka started her career as a singer.
