After a long gap of 8 years, the AMUSU elections (AMUSU Elections 2026-27) have finally returned to Aligarh Muslim University. But the platform from where the issues of students'rights, hostel facilities, research and education should have been debated, politics is now seen moving out of the campus walls and revolving around international and national controversies. The speeches of the presidential candidates are now referring more to Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid, Azam Khan's release and Gaza-Palestine. The most discussed in the election atmosphere are the speeches of presidential candidate Noman Ashraf. He raised the issue of political prisoners in jail in his speech. Defending his statement, Noman Ashraf said,'Talk that I have talked about Political Prisoners, I have talked about Sharjeel Imam. Sharjeel or Imam Khalid.
