Arab League Condemns Israel's 'Extremely Dangerous' Death Penalty Law

Cairo: Israel's recent decisions amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia have caused a stir in the Muslim world. An emergency meeting of the Arab League was held in the Egyptian capital Cairo today to protest against the actions of Israeli security forces in Jerusalem and the restrictions imposed on the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The meeting, chaired by Bahrain, described the new law by Israel to execute Palestinian prisoners as extremely dangerous for regional peace. The Arab League meeting on the'death penalty'law mainly discussed the death penalty law passed by the Israeli parliament (Knesset) on 30 March. According to this new law, military courts in the West Bank will now be able to directly execute Palestinians convicted of killing Israeli civilians. Significantly, Israeli citizens have been explicitly excluded from this law, which Arab countries have openly admonished and condemned to death despite the history of human rights violations in 1962.
