Ashok Lahiri has also served as the Economic Advisor to the Center in the past. He has also served as a member of the 15th Finance Commission of India. He served as the 12th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India from 2002 to 2007. As a result, heavyweights like him were not given tickets. Eventually, his name was left out.
