The Assam Congress on Sunday (August 16, 2026) suspended the primary membership of four party members, including a former MLA, with immediate effect. The four leaders expelled by the Congress party are former Dhubri MLA Rasul Haque (Bahadur) and three others. The disciplinary action has been taken on the directions of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi. An official order in this regard has also been issued by APCC general secretary (organisation) Ramanna Baruah on Sunday (August 16, 2026). Apart from former Congress MLA from Dhubri, Rasul Haque, the party has also removed ticket claimant from Dhubri assembly constituency and former Zila Parishad member Rezaul Islam (Rinku), Dhubri District Congress Committee (DCC) general secretary Mohir Uddin Mondal and Anchalik Panchayat member of Matichar Gram Panchayat Afzal Hussain from the primary membership of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
