Baishnabnagar Political Tensions Rise Amid Candidate Silence

M Anwarul Haque, Baishnabnagar: The political situation in Baishnabnagar is complicated by a combination of goosa-abhimaan, factional rivalry, and discontent with the leadership. All parties - Trinamool Congress, Congress, BJP, and Left Front - are silent on the nomination of candidates. This has left a section of workers frustrated and disillusioned. The Congress has announced its candidate very late. The Congress leadership is believed to have nominated Mamoni to ensure the representation of the Chai community in Baishnabnagar. Block President Azizul Haque, Block Observer Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh, and Sarwar Jahan themselves were in the race for the ticket. However, the district and state leadership ultimately relied on different equations. Sarwar, the son of Malda District Youth Congress President and Kaliachak 3rd Block Congress President Azizul Haque, resigned from the party post and primary membership soon after the announcement of the candidate. Not only this, he led the social media outrage against the leadership, which led to further drama in the party.
