Banswara Municipal Council Sees Political Shifts and Upgrades

Banswara Municipal Council has a total of 60 wards. In the last civic elections held in 2019, Congress formed its board. Out of 60, Congress won 36 councillors. BJP won 21 wards, while three seats were won by independent candidates. Elections were not held after the completion of the term in 2024 and the state government appointed administrators in the bodies. Elections were held in Banswara in 1994 after the advertisement year 1986. Out of the six elections held so far, BJP formed its board four times. Banswara remained a municipality from 1994 to 2010-11. After this, the state government upgraded the municipality to the status of a municipal council. In 1994, BJP won with a majority, with Manilal Bohra becoming the municipal president. Then in 1999, Umesh Patiyat and in 2004, Krishna Katara became the municipal presidents. Then in 2014, Rajesh Purohit became the chairman. In 2009, Janata voted for the first time for Banswara Municipal Board and Congress won the elections for the board for the second time. Taylor was also the president of the Congress.
