Bengal Government Carries Out Massive Police Department Reshuffle

After the formation of the new government in Bengal, the biggest ever administrative reshuffle has been made in the police department. The state government has issued an order for the transfer and promotion of 179 IPS and WBPS officers simultaneously. Many important posts of the state police, Kolkata Police, STF, CID, Intelligence Branch, Traffic, Home Guards, and Armed Police have been affected in this massive reorganization. Before the assembly elections, the current Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had launched a scathing attack on Rupesh Kumar, calling him a'jack'of Mamata Banerjee. After the change of power, his transfer has become a special topic of discussion in political circles. The state government has appointed Kunal Agarwal as Additional Commissioner (Crime) of Kolkata Police. Soma Das Mitra has been promoted to IG (Policy). Murlidhar Sharma has been given the responsibility of IG (Intelligence Branch). Siliguri Police Commissioner Syed Waqar Raja has been promoted to IG rank and retained in his post.
