Bihar Congress Withdraws from Most Seats in MLC Election, to Contest Only One

In the Bihar MLC election 2026, the state Congress has withdrawn its move after the high command's directive. Now the Bihar Congress will contest only one seat out of eight in the legislative council. This is Darbhanga (Teachers). Former state president of the party from here, Dr. Madan Mohan Jha, is the sitting MLC. However, no official confirmation has been made by the state Congress leadership so far. As soon as the discussion of the election to the eight vacant seats of the legislative council began, the RJD announced the names of its candidates on six seats. The declared candidates of the RJD are Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh from Patna Teachers'Constituency, Dilip Kumar from Patna Graduates'Constituency, Nitesh Kumar from Kosi Graduates'Constituency, Anil Kumar Jha from Darbhanga Graduates'Constituency, Prof. Jairam Yadav from Saran Teachers'Constituency and Dr. Rashmi Vinayak Gautam from Tirhut Graduates'Constituency. The RJD has not yet announced the candidates on the teachers'and teachers'seats. The names of the eight candidates have been announced by the Congress without consulting the party leadership.
