The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced candidates for four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat. The BJP list makes it clear that it will contest all four seats. The Indian National Congress will, in all likelihood, draw a blank in Gujarat for the first time since the state's formation. The BJP has nominated Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansingh Parmar, and Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanjariya for the four Rajya Sabha seats. The BJP said in a press release that the Central Election Committee has approved the names for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha. The last date for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections has been set for 8 June. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on 9 June, with candidates able to withdraw their names by 11 June. Polling will be held on 18 June and counting will be taken up immediately after polling ends on the same day. There are a total of 182 candidates in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, of which one seat is vacant; currently, the BJP has 161 members, while the Congress has 4 independents.
