Reports of a split in the party have intensified after the assembly election debacle in Tamil Nadu. However, the BJP has outrightly denied these speculations. The party claimed that there is complete unity in the Tamil Nadu unit and former state president K. Annamalai has neither resigned nor is planning to float a new political party. According to Nagendran, Annamalai's visit to Delhi was mainly to meet Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to discuss fertiliser-related issues. He also met BJP general secretaries. Nagendran, on the other hand, rubbished reports of any rift with Annamalai. On the other hand, sources close to Annamalai say that he is all set to part ways with the BJP and choose his own independent political path. Sources who announced his plans on June 5 say that Annamalai is preparing to launch a full-fledged political movement.
