New Delhi: As soon as the notification for the election of the standing committee of the MCD, considered to be the most powerful, was issued, the political storm within the BJP has intensified over the post of president. Nominations can be filed till July 21 for the election of the committee to be held on July 27. The post of president is considered to be occupied by the BJP due to its absolute majority, but the increasing number of contenders within the party has made the contest interesting. There are currently 12 members of the BJP and six of the Aam Aadmi Party in the 18-member standing committee. Due to the clear majority, the post of president and vice-president is likely to go to the BJP. Many senior councillors and leaders of the party have started contacting the organization and top leadership at their own level. According to advertising sources, about 6 BJP leaders are active for the post of president. Among them, the current standing committee president Satya Sharma is once again staking claim. Apart from this, senior councillor Satpal, former mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, recently joined the BJP from the Indraprastha Vikas Party, Jayachandra Yadav and Jayachandra Yadav are also said to be in the running for the post of vice-president.
