BJP Likely to Field Chandranath Rath's Mother in Nandigram By-Election

The Nandigram assembly seat in West Bengal is once again in the eye of the storm. The by-election to the seat is scheduled for October 6. The buzz is that the BJP is likely to field Hasi Rath, the mother of Chandranath Rath, the late personal assistant of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Hasi Rath herself has reacted to this and said that whatever decision the chief minister takes, she will accept it. Let us tell you that Suvendu Adhikari won from two seats during the assembly elections held in 2026. He decided to represent Kolkata's Bhabanipur seat and vacated the Nandigram seat. By-elections are being held on this seat. This seat in Purba Medinipur district was the most discussed in 2021, when Suvendu Adhikari defeated then Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In the assembly elections held this year, the incumbent chief minister also defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Pavitra Kar from Nandigram.
