BJP Meghalaya Chief Confident of Party's Growth Ahead of 2028 Assembly Elections

Hek said that the BJP is already engaged in strengthening the organizational structure and increasing its hold up to the booth level. He said that the party's base in the state has increased in the last few years and by the upcoming election, the BJP will be among the major political forces in Meghalaya. He said, "The BJP will contest the 2028 assembly elections on its own and we are confident that we will be in a position to lead the next government." Hek also made an important revelation about the proposed by-election to the Adishilang Lok Sabha seat. Hek said that the party leadership had initially considered fielding him as a candidate, but he declined to contest the election citing his current responsibilities. Hek said, "The party had asked me to contest the by-election, but I made it clear that I have many important responsibilities that I have to fulfill. Therefore, I will not contest the election." He informed that he has proposed the name of BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai to the party. However, the party leadership has to take a final decision and with sufficient strength, the BJP leader said that the party will announce the candidate in time to prepare for the by-election.
