BJP Names Devashish Sharma as Candidate for Assam's Nagaon Lok Sabha By-Election

The BJP on Friday (September 11) announced its candidate for the by-election to the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam. The party has given the ticket to former Nagaon District Commissioner (DC) Devashish Sharma. He joined the ruling BJP recently. Since then, there was speculation that the party might field him. On getting the ticket, Sharma told news agency IANS, "I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Nitin Naveen, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for this. Since I resigned, the local MLA has guided me. He kept the faith. I also want to thank the local people. BJP's Northeast coordinator and MP Sambit Patra congratulated Sharma on getting the ticket. He said," The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has given its approval for the Lok Sabha by-election to be held in Assam in 2026 in the name of Debashish Sharma.
