The BJP took to the streets in Jammu on Monday against the National Conference-led government. Party workers staged a massive demonstration outside the secretariat, burning effigies of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and demanding his resignation. BJP workers, who had started a protest against the Omar government from three parts of Jammu city around 1 am, reached the secretariat amid attempts by the police to stop them. Hundreds of BJP workers, led by state BJP president Sat Sharma, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Sunil Sharma, raised slogans against the government. Protesters gathered at various places, including Dogra Chowk, Maheshpura and Panthatirthi, and marched towards the civil secretariat. During the protest, the workers tried to break through police barricades, leading to tense situations. BJP leaders and workers alleged that the NC-Congress coalition government had failed to fulfil promises made during the elections. The protesters also raised slogans against the Omar Abdullah government over frequent power cuts, welfare and unemployment issues.
