BJP Releases Candidates for Rajya Sabha Elections in Rajasthan

The BJP on Thursday (June 4) released the list of candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. From Rajasthan, the BJP has given tickets to senior party leader Satish Poonia and former MLA Alka Gurjar. Satish Poonia is the president of Rajasthan BJP. Currently in charge of Haryana. Alka Gurjar is the general secretary of BJP and has been the MLA from Bandikui. Satish Poonia is from Jat community while Alka Gurjar is from Gurjar community. An attempt has been made to strike a caste equation. BJP has made both candidates from OBC category. Alka Gurjar is trying to reduce the influence of Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot. Three Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant in Rajasthan out of which two are likely to go to BJP and Congress. Two seats will go to BJP as per the arithmetic of votes. One Congress candidate will go to Rajya Sabha. Poonia and Alka Gurjar's name was leading in the race. According to the current state of the legislature party in Rajasthan, no party has enough numbers for the third seat. This is the reason why the BJP has rejected the idea of fielding a third tribal candidate or an independent candidate. 118 seats are with the Indian National Congress.
