The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its first list of 88 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. The list, as expected, includes Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been renominated from his old seat Jalukbari. Padamshibir has fielded outgoing BJP MP Hitendra Nath Goswami against state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi in the Jorhat assembly seat. Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Bora, who recently joined the BJP after quitting the Congress, have been given tickets from Dispur and Bihpuria, respectively. Several cabinet ministers are re-contesting from their old constituencies. Ajanta Neog is contesting from Golaghat, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu is contesting from Dhemaji-ST constituency, Rupesh Goala is contesting from Dummada, Binal Bora is contesting from Tingkhong, Pijush Hazarika is contesting from Jagiroad, Jayanta Malla Barua is contesting from Nalbari, Ashok Singhal is contesting from Dhekiajuli, Krishnendu Pal is contesting from Patharkandi, Kaushik Rai is contesting from Lakshmipur.
