Guwahati: With the Assam Assembly elections just around the corner, the Bharatiya Janata Party today released its first list of 88 stalwarts. The BJP has zeroed in on seasoned leaders and stalwarts of the ruling party. With 126 seats in Assam going to polls in a single phase on April 9, the list is a major part of the BJP's strategy to regain power in the state. The current Chief Minister of the state and strong leader of Northeast Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, led by veteran leader Biswa Sarma, will once again contest from his traditional seat Jalukbari. Apart from this, the BJP has also fielded other big names from the central and state level. Former Lok Sabha MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy has been given a ticket from Silchar, while Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Rameshwar Telia Dulajan's fate hangs in the balance. Former BJP state president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has been made the party's candidate from Bhopur.
