BJP Sees Resounding Victory in West Bengal Assembly Elections, TMC Expected to Suffer Defeat

New Delhi: All eyes are now on the official results of the West Bengal assembly elections 2026 after polling concluded. But the exit poll numbers that have already come out have caused a major earthquake in Bengal politics. Early exit poll trends are pointing to a change of power in Bengal, with the BJP giving a crushing defeat to the ruling Trinamool Congress and forming a government with a clear majority in the 294-member assembly. According to several exit poll figures released on Wednesday evening, the BJP has the upper hand in Bengal. The survey by both Metris and Poll Diary agencies has projected the BJP to win between 146 and 161 seats, enough for a majority to form a government. Against this, the TMC, which has been in power for more than 10 years, is seen to be reduced from 125 to 140 seats. The TMC's performance in the last election is much better than the 140-plus seats that the TMC got in the state.
