There have been political developments in the recent past that have unexpectedly increased the strength of the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Upper House of Parliament. The party has also fielded Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik in the Rajya Sabha by-elections in West Bengal. Their victory is certain, after which the NDA seems to be heading towards a historic two-thirds majority in the House. Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha members Sukhendu Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik resigned from the membership of the House as well as the membership of the party recently. These three seats fell vacant after, as was being speculated, the three immediately joined the BJP and were made BJP nominees in the recent West Bengal by-elections.
