Bengaluru: With two years left for the next Assembly election, BJP veteranB S Yediyurappasounded the poll bugle Thursday by claiming that the BJP would assume power “on its own,” signalling that the saffron party has its own plans that may or may not include the JD(S), its alliance partner. Experience a more refined e-paper today “We should come to power in the upcoming Assembly elections on our strength and uproot this corrupt Congress government. If all the senior leaders here make a decision, I don’t think it’s difficult,” Yediyurappa, a former chief minister and a current BJP Parliamentary Board member, said. Yediyurappa’s statement is very similar to his son and BJP State President BY Vijayendra’s claim in December 2025 that the saffron party would win “130-140 seats on its own” in the upcoming elections. Both in 2008 and 2018, when the BJP got 110 and 104 seats respectively, Yediyurappa eventually became the chief minister through “Operation Lotus.” The Saffron party is yet to get a simple majority (113 out of 224 seats) on its own. Yediyurappa was felicitated today on the occasion for 50 years in public life. BJP National General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agrawal hailed BJP State President BY Vijayendra, leader of the opposition in the Assembly R Ashoka and his council counterpart Chalavadi Narayanaswamy. “I am confident that under the leadership of this team, BJP will get a historic verdict in the upcoming elections,” Agrawal said, hinting at the trio, although he didn’t explicitly mention their names again. Agrawal accused the Congress government of trying to bring the Muslim community “within the ambit” of the Rohit Vemula Act alongside SC, ST and OBC communities. Speaking on the occasion, Vijayendra slammed the ruling Congress and claimed there was a “zero development” state. “After the Congress came to power, there have been murders of Hindu (Hindutva) activists and Dalits. In Yellapur, a Dalit woman was killed and in Koppal, a Dalit person was killed but there hasn’t been any compensation.” He hoped for a verdict in the 2028 Assembly polls that would be “written in gold,” and urged workers to struggle day and night to bring back the “glory days” of the BJP.
