The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may not have won a majority in the 2022 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, but it has managed to form the government in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for two consecutive years. In the mayoral and deputy mayoral elections held on Wednesday, the BJP held both positions. Out of a total of 165 votes cast for the mayoral post, BJP candidate Pravesh Wahi received 156 votes, which is 95%. Monika Pant was elected as the deputy mayor. Pravesh Wahi defeated Congress candidate Zarif by a margin of 147 votes. Zarif received only 9 votes. Pravesh Wahi is the leader of the house in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and is a councillor from ward number 53 (Rohini-East). Zarif is a councillor of the Congress party from ward number 234. After the election of the mayor and deputy mayor, three members of the standing committee were elected unopposed. This includes BJP councillor Jai Bhagwan Yadav from ward number 27 (Begumpur), BJP councillor from ward number 82, and Aam Aadmi Party councillor from ward number 55. Interestingly, the Aam Aadmi Party has not fielded a mayoral candidate this time.
