MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has dismissed a plea by the father of a child who died in police custody at the Wadala Truck Terminus police station in 2019, seeking action against the police. The court accepted the CBI's report, saying the allegations against the police were untenable. The CBI has given a clean chit to the police and has also cleared the men who had a stand-off with the deceased of assault charges. In September last year, the high court handed over the probe into the case to the CBI. A bench of justice Bharati Dangre and justice Manjusha Deshpande said the CBI had clearly concluded that the death was not due to police assault but due to a sudden cardiac arrest. In its March 13 judgment, the court noted that the CBI had investigated all angles in the case to find out whether the police had assaulted the victim and the respondent was in denial from the outset. The court, after finding no cognisable offence, had dismissed the police's plea against Vijay Singh, who was detained by the police in a truck collision case in October 2019.
