The President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon on a five-day period during which he will participate in the ongoing AI Impact Summit, 2026. The Brazilian President will also engage with PM Narendra Modi andhold a bilateral meeting. The bilateral meeting will focus on strategic partnership, focusing on defence, trade, energy, agriculture, and health. Taking to X, the official spokesperson of MEA, Randhir Jaiswal said, “India and Brazil share a close and multifaceted relationship, elevated to Strategic Partnership and rooted in a common global vision, shared democratic values and commitment to inclusive growth.” “President Lula’s visit will impart strong momentum to India-Brazil partnership,” he further added. Several Memoranda of Understanding in sectors including energy, civil aviation, critical minerals and pharmaceuticals are likely to be signed. Brazil is also considering introducing 10-year multiple-entry visas for Indian tourists and easing business visa norms. Describing India as the ‘’pharmaceutical powerhouse’’, the Minister said, “Our mission in India, this pharmaceutical powerhouse, will have three main focuses: bringing more and more products and technologies to Brazil, signing several partnerships [in the area], learning about traditional Indian medicine, and visiting smart hospitals." The visit from February 18-22 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked an important meeting amid the rising tariffs announced by the United States against India and Brazil. Lula is leading the largest-ever Brazilian delegation to India, comprising 14 cabinet ministers and over 200 business leaders. The delegation will attend the Brazil–India Business Forum to boost investment and commercial integration. The Brazilian president will hold a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on February 21 to review the “entire gamut of bilateral relations”, as per a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) statement. PM Modi met Spain’s President, Finland’s PM, and Serbia’s President in New Delhi during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, discussing trade, AI, and tech cooperation.
