BRICS Meeting Concludes in New Delhi Without Opposition Chief Ministers

The two-day BRICS meeting held in New Delhi ended. The meeting was not attended by chief ministers of opposition-ruled states, while all chief ministers were invited. No official reason has been given for the opposition chief ministers not attending the meeting. However, sources in Telangana and Himachal Pradesh said that chief ministers Revanth Reddy and Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu were busy with pre-scheduled engagements. Chief ministers of six BJP-ruled states attended the meeting. They attended the dinner at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The dinner was attended by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta. Also, chief ministers of Kerala वी.डी. Satheesan, Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay, Karnataka deputy chief minister डी.के. Shivakumar, Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy, and Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu did not attend the meeting. Opposition parties had boycotted the meeting of the nine-member governing council of the NITI Aayog since July 2024.
