Chhattisgarh Government Releases Data to Dispel Smart Meter Concerns

Amid the ongoing political debate over smart meters in Chhattisgarh, the state government has responded to the opposition's allegations by releasing official data. The government claims that the power consumption and bill increases after the installation of smart meters are factually incorrect. According to the department, a significant reduction in power consumption has been recorded in Raipur City Region in July 2026. According to the data released by the advertisement government, in June 2026, where the total power consumption was 131.27 million units (MU), it decreased to 89.38 million units in July. That is, a decrease of about 31.91 percent in one month. The government says that if the smart meters were giving the wrong readings, the power consumption should have increased, while the actual figures are the opposite.
