China Protests US Pentagon List of Chinese Companies Helping Military

China's commerce ministry said on Saturday that it was "deeply offended" by the US move to include several large Chinese companies on a Pentagon list of firms that are helping China's military. The foreign ministry also expressed concern over a long-awaited update by the US Defense Department to its list on Monday. The list includes e-commerce giant Alibaba, Internet search provider Baidu, and large technology companies such as car makers BYD and NIO. It later includes the world's largest solar panel makers Trina Solar and JA Solar Technology. The list includes several major Chinese technology companies that play a key role in bolstering Beijing's military and industrial power. The list reflects Washington's security concerns amid the ongoing fierce geopolitical competition between the two countries. China, the commerce ministry said, "strongly opposes this move." It urges the US to "immediately stop its wrongful actions," the car maker's BYD and NIO, and to "immediately return to the right path."
