Comedian Praneet More Seeks Supreme Court Intervention in Biryani Controversy

Stand-up comedian Praneet More has approached the Supreme Court over the Rs 370 biryani controversy. More has sought clubbing of FIRs registered against him in Maharashtra and Haryana. The Supreme Court on Monday (September 21) issued notices to the Centre, Maharashtra and Haryana governments on his plea. The controversy surfaced during a comedy show by More in Gurugram. Himanshu Jangra, a viewer on the show, made a controversial remark referring to a date with a woman. Jangra said he spent Rs 370 on chicken biryani during the date. He hoped the woman would have sex with him. More laughed after the comment, calling it Gurugram's peak content. He was criticised on social media after the video went viral and accused of taking a serious issue like consent for granted. After the controversy escalated, More publicly apologised. Meanwhile, the Cyber Police of Maharashtra filed a complaint in the Supreme Court against More in connection with the FIR against More, Jangra and others for spreading obscene material and objectionable online content. More has also filed a complaint in the National Commission for Women in Gurugram.
