In a major setback to the Congress candidates for the Assam Assembly elections. Nominations of 3 leaders have been rejected. One of them was from the Jalukbari seat from where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is contesting. A total of 18 nominations have been rejected so far. According to the Election Commission website, the nominations of Congress candidate Anand Narah from Dhakuakhana seat, Nirmal Langthasa from Haflong seat and Vidisha Neog from Jalukbari seat have been rejected. The Dhakuakhana seat is currently held by former BJP minister Naba Kumar Doley. BJP cabinet minister Nandita Garlosa's candidature for Haflong seat has been accepted. Gorlosa joined the Congress on Sunday night. She filed her nomination the very next day. The 3 leaders whose nominations have been rejected have not been mentioned on the Election Commission website. Among the candidates whose nominations have been rejected so far are 126 candidates of the Janata Morcha, 1 of the SuMukti International Party, 3 of the Communist Party of Jharkhand (CPI) and 3 of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
