Congress Demands Action Over 'Purification' Controversy Involving Dalits in Haldwani

The Congress is not giving up on efforts to corner the BJP over the humiliation meted out to the Dalit community in the Haldwani "purification" controversy that erupted after the Gen-G students. The party's top leadership is directly pressing the BJP leadership for action, calling it a case of untouchability. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has written to Union minister J.P. Nadda in Parliament questioning the lack of an FIR on the purification incident so far, asking him to direct Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to register a case against those involved. The Congress president has condemned the reverse FIR on Rahul Gandhi, demanding an FIR in the matter. The Congress is not afraid of such attempts. The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, referring to the non-implementation of the assurance of Leader of the House J.P. Nadda after Kharge's rally at Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani was raised in the Rajya Sabha on 13 August, shared the letter on 2 September.
