Congress Emerges Victorious in Ajmer Municipal Corporation Elections

Prominent BJP faces in Ajmer include Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Union Minister Bhagirath Chaudhary, and BJP leader Anita Bhadel. Seven of the eight seats in the district went to the Congress in the assembly elections. The Congress also maintained its position at the ward level in the civic polls. Of the 80 wards of the municipal corporation, the Congress won 37, the BJP 32, and independents 11 seats. But in the mayoral election, the BJP's Anamika Sharma received 43 votes, while the Congress's Kiran Garhwal received 37 votes. That is, the Congress could not take the mayor's chair despite winning six wards more. The BJP's state president Madan Rathore has a prominent political constituency. Cabinet minister Zoramth Kumar and former union minister PP Chaudhary are also prominent faces of BJP politics here. Despite this, the Congress was the largest party in the Pali Municipal Corporation with 29 wards. The BJP got 21 and independents got 15 seats. Namita Bubakiya of the BJP was elected mayor. Therefore, the BJP's political leader in the Pali Municipal Corporation, Adiram Godrekar, and Arjun Meghwal, were the top leaders in the cabinet.
