New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. With a fresh list of 23 names, the party has so far announced candidates for a total of 65 seats. The biggest highlight of the list is the decision to field former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's son and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi from the Jorhat seat. The Congress decision has made it clear that the party does not want to leave any stone unturned to return to power in the northeast and is ready to give a direct fight to the BJP. The picture is now almost clear. After 42 candidates in the first list, the Congress has tried to project an inclusive image by fielding three women candidates in the second list. The Congress has not only announced its candidates for its own party, but also for alliance partners like the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), the CPI (M) and the Assam National Council, whose 15 seats are reserved for the opposition party.
