Congress' Traditional Stronghold: Bankipur Seat History and Recent Developments

In 2020, Congress held the Bankipur seat. Yash Sinha, son of then Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha, was given a ticket by Congress. However, he had to face defeat. In 2025, this seat went to RJD. Rekha Gupta contested. She got 46363 votes. Political analyst Ashutosh Kumar says that Congress has been considering this seat as its traditional seat. When Bankipur seat was known as Patna West, this seat was won by a Congress candidate for the first time. Patna West was elected for the first time in 1957. In 1957, Congress won the Patna West seat. In this election, Congress'Ramsaran Sao defeated independent Damodar Prasad by 3,771 votes. Ramsaran got a total of 8,813 votes. While Damodar got 5,042 votes. In 1962, Congress's Santosh Ballabh Sahay won here. He got 5,288 votes. He defeated Sahay Sahay by 27,225 votes.
