Congress's Tough Talk on Rebels Fizzles as Party Fails to Take Action

Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara had claimed to have taken a tough stand on the rebels during the withdrawal of nominations. He had said that disciplinary action will be taken against the rebels who do not withdraw from the electoral fray and will be expelled from the party for six years. Now that the first phase of campaigning is over and polling is nearing, the lack of large-scale action is raising questions within the party. Especially after the BJP's action has come to light, the comparison of the strategy of the two parties has also begun. Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi says that the rebels are still being explained. State and district level leaders are persuading them to withdraw from the electoral fray and come out in support of the party's official candidate. The party has also instructed the district Congress committees to convince the rebels first. Even after this, if they contest or campaign against the party candidate, action should be taken. The party claims that the action taken is according to the political body.
