Delhi Court Acquits Former Wrestling Federation President Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

A Delhi court on Monday (August 3) acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of charges of sexual harassment levelled against him by six women wrestlers. While Brij Bhushan called the verdict a victory for him, Olympian Vinesh Phogat made it clear that the women wrestlers will challenge the decision in the high court. The case was filed on the complaints of six women wrestlers who had made serious allegations against Brij Bhushan. With the court's decision, the trial of this criminal case is currently over. Soon after this verdict, star wrestler Vinesh Phogat expressed her displeasure by writing a long post on social media. Vinesh Phogat wrote on X, "We had to gather a lot of courage to take to the streets and file an FIR against a Bahubali leader of the ruling party. On the strength of power and influence, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh intimidated many girls and made them return their names. Many women wrestlers were fighting in the court.
