Election Commission Takes Major Decisions on Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls Amid Controversy

On 26th September 2026, amidst the allegations against the Chief Election Commissioner and the controversy over the SIR, a crucial meeting of the Election Commission was held at 3 pm in which both the Election Commissioners, S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi were seen in the same frame with the CEC. The Commission states that major decisions regarding the SIR were taken with the consent of the entire Commission. The decisions taken in the EC meeting state that the BLOs themselves will go to the houses of those who have received the SIR notice and will collect the BLO documents and upload them on ECINET. The SIR has been completed in 20 states / UTs including Bihar and Bengal. Those whose names have been left out during or after the SIR, or who are young / first-time voters, can apply to their EROs under continuous updation. CEOs, DEOs, EROs have been directed to immediately run a special drive for it. Rahul Gandhi demanded the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
