Explosions and Fire Rock Dubai's Jebel Ali Port Amid Regional Tensions

Multiple explosions followed by a large fire were reported at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port and surrounding industrial zone early Wednesday, prompting authorities to launch an investigation as the cause remained unclear. The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions linked to the US-Iran conflict. Emirati officials acknowledged at least seven blasts within 20 minutes, according to Mehr news agency. The authorities withheld the cause of the explosions and arrested two people on the site for filming the incident. Iranian broadcaster Press TV reported that the video footage of the incident showed massive columns of thick smoke rising near Jebel Ali Port. Some Iraqi outlets reported that the explosions were linked to a missile strike from Yemen; however, the claims have not been verified. NASA thermal imagery indicated a fire at a fuel storage and transfer warehouse adjacent to the port, reported Mehr. Jebel Ali is a strategic logistics and trade hub, housing one of the region’s busiest ports and the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza). Home to over 11,000 companies from over 150 countries, Jafza is connected to major highways and Al Maktoum International Airport. The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Gulf region amid the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. In recent months, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ramped up security measures due to concerns over possible retaliatory strikes targeting US bases in the region.
