Government Scholarships for Indian Students: A Guide to Financial Assistance

Most of the government scholarship schemes can be applied for through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Apart from this, many states have also developed their own separate scholarship portals, where eligible students can apply. One of the most popular schemes for students is the "Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University Students." This scheme is for those students who have excelled in class 12 board exams. Under this scheme, eligible students are given financial assistance of Rs 12,000 per year at the graduation level. To apply, the student must be among the top 80 percent of their respective board students in the 12th board exam. In addition, the government-run scholarship schemes such as PM-SA and PM-SYSS should not be more than Rs 4.50 lakh per annum for socially and economically backward students.
