Government Seeks Consensus with Regional Parties Ahead of Constitutional Move

According to sources, the government is trying to build a political consensus ahead of the big constitutional move and has started talks with several regional parties, including the DMK and the TMC. It is being reported that if the required numbers (two-thirds majority) are ensured in Parliament, the government may jointly introduce a bill for delimitation and simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha. Significantly, some TMC leaders have given positive signals about this initiative and are ready for an open debate on delimitation. At the same time, the DMK, which had earlier expressed strong opposition on this issue, seems to be relatively soft this time and is waiting for a revised proposal.
