The by-election to the Manjalpur seat of the Gujarat Assembly is scheduled for July 30, for which today was the last day of nominations. Satish Patel from the BJP and Bhikhabhai Rabari from the Congress filed their nominations. The BJP candidate was accompanied by BJP state president Jagdish Vishwakarma and local leaders. The second and Congress state president Amit Chavda and local leaders were present. The BJP-Congress duo also organised a'Vijay Vishwas Sammelan'to enthuse their workers where both sides claimed victory for themselves. Most importantly, the AAP has once again distanced itself from this by-election. The Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to be the opposition in the state, has once again stayed away from the electoral fray. The Manjalpur assembly seat has long been considered a BJP stronghold. The seat fell vacant due to the death of senior BJP leader Yogesh Patel, on whom the BJP has fielded former district president Satish Patel. He has also served as the chairman of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation's Standing Committee. Satish Patel has been associated with many local cooperatives.
