Ahmedabad, તા.18: In a democracy, elections are a prerequisite for ensuring people's participation in power, however, in Gujarat local body elections, instead of people's participation, a high political drama was created and the picture of election results have started to become clear even before the state went to the polls. According to official data, a large number of candidates have been elected unopposed in various municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats and taluka panchayats of the state. Among these unopposed winners, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on all fronts. Unopposed candidates have been declared in a total of 730 seats across the state, out of which the highest number of seats have been won by the BJP. Unopposed victory figures have been seen in municipalities, where a total of 385 candidates have been declared unopposed. Out of these, 370 candidates of the BJP have won, while the Congress has won 12 and independents have won 3 seats. Similarly, a total of 43 unopposed seats in the municipal corporations, all of which are held by the Bharatiya Janata Party, while 251 have been won in rural panchayats.
