Gaza Strip politics witnessed a historic and huge upheaval on Monday. Palestinian militant organization Hamas officially announced the dissolution of the Administrative Committee of its government that has ruled the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades. The announcement now paves the way for the civilian rule of a non-political'technocrat'committee to take over the affairs of Gaza. Hamas had been ruling Gaza since 2007, when it gained control by defeating its rival faction Fatah in a conflict. Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in October 2025, Hamas has been saying that it is ready to withdraw from the day-to-day functioning and governance. According to Hamas spokesman Halem Qassem, Hamas has taken this new step so that Israel has no excuse to continue its attacks or occupation of Gaza. Thus, the National Administrative Committee for Gaza (NCAG) will now be formed under the control of the Donald Trump administration.
